Summary:
The garden at Malus Farm is the setting for Grace Alexander Flowers, writer with the Garden Collective and biodynamic seed producer.
The different garden areas and their produce are frequently photographed for publication and have also been the foundation a bestselling book published in September 2021, Grow & Gather, and featured in a number of high-profile, national magazines such as House and Garden.
I am looking for a proactive, imaginative, and talented gardener to maintain and develop the beauty of the outdoor spaces of Malus Farm, as well as producing abundant harvests of flowers, edibles and saved seed. It is a small, intensively managed space amounting to a quarter of an acre, so there is an opportunity to create an absolutely magical garden.
I am organically certified and you will be key to this process so experience of working in an organic garden would be desirable.

Three days a week, able to be flexible around child-care or other caring responsibilities, e.g. the hours spread across five days, or early/late starts.
The role will involve :
· General day to day maintenance of all areas, including weeding, hedge trimming, staking etc while requiring a minimum amount of supervision and using of own initiative
· Planning beds, schemes, and planting areas in discussion with GA, taking the lead on implementing plans
· Propagation, growing on and planting out of cut flowers & edibles for photography and selling, & the harvesting and cleaning of seed for selling in the seed shop
· Supporting the development of soil health through the making and no-dig application of compost, biodynamic preparations and/or IMO’s
· Record keeping of activities in the garden
· Assisting with seed packing and posting off of orders and products from the GAF shop
Person specification
I operate a policy of positive discrimination in terms of race, gender, disability, and caring responsibilities. You will need to have the right to work in the UK. Unfortunately, there is no public transport to the site so you will be required to drive or cycle.
The qualities that you bring are key. I value kindness, compassion, warmth, enthusiasm and a can-do attitude highly and this is a small team so these things really matter. You will need to have previous experience of making decisions in a garden, including crop planning, as well as the foundation of well-established horticultural skills, and to have demonstrated attention to detail in previous roles.
I am looking for someone who is ready to make their mark on a garden, to be creative in order to raise this high-profile garden into something truly special.
Two references are required.
